Fortunately, the interesting contours and character of the property had been created for us by glacial movements and moraine deposits. There was minimal indigenous rock of any substantial size, allowing us a clean slate on our choice of stone. Our goal was that the stone would look as if it were created and shaped at that location.
Stone selection and placement needed to appear extremely authentic, worn and weathered from centuries of wind and water. Ultimately, more than 500 tons of a Mississippi limestone, or what we call “weathered bluff rock,” was brought in to create water courses, outcroppings and for landscaping.
With the EPDM liner seamed in place and the perimeter secured, we then installed a local mix of bank run that included every size of material, from sand up to 6- to 8-inch stone as a covering.
