Continuing housing’s roller-coaster ride, the numbers shot back up in June. Privately owned housing starts hit a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.06 million, which is a 9.1 percent increase over May. Still, starts were down 26.9 percent from the same time last year. And single-family housing slipped to 647,000 in June, down 5.3 percent from May, indicating that the crunch is far from over.
