ConnectYard, maker of pHin Smart Water Care Solution, is making inroads to retail.

The Palo Alto, Calif.-based startup is making the water-monitoring device available at Ace Hardware and select pool supply stores. Ace is the world’s largest hardware cooperative, with 5,000 locations worldwide, and is the first major U.S. retailer to carry pHin in all its stores.

Now consumers have the option of buying the device and chemicals at a store or online — or through their pool service contractor. The company said it will continue to maintain its online chemical-subscription service that delivers pre-measured chemical pods to the customer’s door.

The foray into retail comes after ConnectedYard formed a strategic partnership with Lonza, the pool treatment products powerhouse that offers such brands as HTH, Leisure Time and Poolife, many of which also are available at Ace Hardware.
