Pool + Graffiti = Art?

1 MIN READ

I’ve always been skeptical of those who would refer to graffiti as “urban art.” I love commissioned murals and would never contest that they fall under the category of art. But when I think of graffiti, I think of defacement of property.

But sometimes it’s a sight to behold, particularly on a product that’s near and dear to your heart.

Commercial designer Bill Rowley shared with me the photo you see at the bottom left, showing a pool that is due for restoration. I’m sure it will look great when it’s done over and operational, but for now, I’m enjoying it as it is. I love the orderly randomness of it — and how the graffiti continues onto the walls in the landscaping.

As I said, it’s a sight to behold.
