Consumer Confidence Hits New Low
The Consumer Confidence Index plummeted again in May to a reading of 57.2. This marks the index’s fifth straight month of decline and a 16-year low. Lynn Franco, director of The Conference Board Consumer Research Center, attributed the ongoing slump to “weakening business and job conditions coupled with growing pessimism about the short-term future.”
