On April 26, a 20-year-old employee at Strong Spas died after being crushed under a 1,200-pound mold in the firm’s Point Township, Pa. facility.

Point Township Police Chief Joshua VanKirk, who responded to the accident, confirmed the incident, saying the investigation is ongoing.

Northumberland County Coroner James F. Kelley was quoted in the local press saying the employee died within seconds of blunt force trauma to the chest after being entrapped in the mold.

Wade Spicer, owner of Strong Spas, told local press this was the first work-related death at the hot tub manufacturer since it opened in 1992. He also said the employee had been working at Strong Spas for a month.

The Wilkes-Barre, Pa. area office of OSHA has confirmed it will be investigating as well in the coming months.
